AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM



NORTH CENTRAL OFFERS AN INTENSE AND COMPREHENSIVE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM.  MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY ARE STRENGTH TRAINING DAYS.  TUESDAY IS FOR SPEED, QUICKNESS AND AGILITY.  ALL ATHLETES MUST BE IN THE WEIGHT ROOM BY 2:15 EACH DAY.  EACH SESSION CONCLUDES IN TIME FOR PARTICPANTS TO BE ABLE TO BOARD THE 4:15 LATE BUS.  EACH STUDENT MUST HAVE A 2.0 GPA AND AN IHSAA ATHLETIC PHYSICAL FORM ON FILE IN THE ATHLETIC OFFICE TO PARTICIPATE.


ATHLETES NOT IN STRENGTH AND SPEED CLASS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, DO A PROGRAM SIMILAR TO WHAT IS DONE DURING CLASS.  THIS WORKOUT INCLUDES PARALLEL SQUAT, BENCH PRESS AND HANG CLEAN, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER LIFTS.  ATHLETES WHO ARE IN CLASS, DO A PROGRAM WHICH EMPHASIZES EXERCISES NOT INCLUDED DURING THEIR SCHOOL DAY SESSION.  TEAMS WHICH COME IN AS A GROUP AFTER-SCHOOL DO A PROGRAM WHICH UTILIZES MORE "SPORT SPECIFIC" EXERCISES" THAN INCLUDED DURING CLASS.


WE ENCOURAGE ALL ATHLETES TO ENROLL IN OUR STRENGTH AND SPEED CLASS BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY CONFLICTS AFTER SCHOOL.  EXAMPLES INCLUDE SNOW DAYS, IN SEASON SPORT PREACTICES, CLUB SPORT PRACTICES, DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS AND TUTORING SESSIONS.  STUDENTS RARELY MISS SCHOOL AND THERE IS NO CONFLICT WITH ANY PRACTICES.  STUDENTS WHO ARE IN STRENGTH AND SPEED CLASS MAKE SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER GAINS THAN THOSE WHO TRAIN ONLY AFTER SCHOOL.
